Is life is feeling a bit difficult, are you feeling a bit stuck or has something happened and you need some help to better understand it? Are you trying to make sense of how you feel? Or have you been living with mental health issues for some time and you need support to feel like you're moving forwards again?
About me and my practice
I am an Integrative Counsellor & Psychotherapist which means that the way I work with people is influenced by a number of different therapeutic approaches. I chose to work in this way as I believe that we are all unique individuals with different ways of seeing the world, and different ways of thinking and processing our feelings.
I am mainly influenced by Humanistic, Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural and Neuropsychological perspectives of human development, psychology and emotion. I am also interested in Mindfulness and ways we can understand and work with our nervous systems, helping us to gain a greater sense of control over how we respond to our emotions.
I find that people come to therapy for lots of different reasons, for some it may be anxiety or stress, depression, loss and grief, relationship and family issues, difficulties at work. For others it may be because of a trauma, life changing illness, or habits we they cant change. Some people might start therapy because they want to make specific changes and think about the future, for others it might be about making sense of the past.
It is important to me to work collaboratively and flexibly using skills and techniques that fit you as an individual. I will offer you a safe space to fully explore your thoughts and feelings. A fundamental part of the way I work is to fully accept people as they are, without judgement, showing warmth, kindness and empathy.
Experience
I have worked in private practice for several years, working with people looking to better understand their thoughts and feelings, people working through difficult events and relationships, illness and loss. I have a lot of experience of working with anxiety, worry, low mood, stress, self-criticism, adverse childhood experiences and complicated family dynamics.
Before qualifying as a Counsellor & Psychotherapist I worked for many years both within the NHS and the Charity Sector with people facing difficult issues and events that impacted on their mental health, physical health and wellbeing. I also spent time working with individuals and families following traumatic brain injury.
All of this experience, alongside my work as a therapist means I have worked with people from many different walks of life. I only speak English but welcome people from all cultures and racial groups, and I welcome people of all sexual, gender and relationship identities.
